Hidden World at Broughton

Open Today

11:00 - 17:00

At the bottom of your garden or under a tree there’s a whole new world to discover. Join us this summer as we take children on a journey into the hidden world all around us. We’ve have birds, bugs and bees to find as well as games, surprises and mischief running all summer – completely free!

We'll have weekly activites running on the following dates to take children on an adventure around Broughton to see what they can find.

Wednesday 25 July 11am – 4pm*

Above Ground; All a’Buzz with Bees & Bugs

This week will be all about bee’s and mini bugs that fly. There will be time to learn and play the pollination game, teach the ladybird rock & and dung beetle roll.

Wednesday 1 August 11am – 4pm

Below Ground; Working Worms & Super Ants

Everyone will meet William Wormsworth, the poet worm puppet who will tell the story of the soil cycle and how worms keep the Earth healthy. Before being challenged by a super organism…… can the team be as successful as ants!?!

Wednesday 8 August 11am – 4pm

Above Ground; Birds over Broughton

Hatch some dinosaur descendants…..birds!! Be as busy as birds, making the best nest, the sweetest songs and the tastiest treat bird ball. What makes a bird fierce, Morag teaches us how to spot a bird of prey.

Wednesday 15 August 11am – 4pm

Below Ground; Bedtime in the Burrow

We’ll be settling down for the night a series of beds below ground to find the comfiest. Will you prefer to cuddle up in a foxes’ den, nestle down in a rabbit’s warren, rest your head in a badger set or curl up with a mouse in a burrow? What makes the safest place to sleep for our furry friends? A mini mammal races, mice vs moles, sleeping stoats and a badger bedtime story.

Wednesday 22 August 11am – 4pm

Above Ground; Tiny Transformers

How do they do that? Transformers butterflies in disguise, transformers dragonflies in disguise, Ida will sing this A LOT! Maggots, mealworms, caterpillars & larvae; what happens in a chrysalis? Grubs scrub up and transform into flying beasts about us.

Wednesday 29 August 11am – 4pm

Below Ground; Creepy Crawlies

Underground gets dark this week. Are you scared of spiders? Terrified of tiny things with many legs? Learn to love spiders, many legged millipedes & centipedes, as Ida and the team explore how our creepiest crawlies live underground.

*Certain sessions throughout the day will be photographed and/or filmed for promotional purposes. You are welcome to come along, however we will ensure that we have parental consent for any child that may be photographed or filmed.

Hidden World will be led by Ida the Insect Expert, and her team of two entomologists: Morag the Magpie and Bobby Burrows. Each adventure will be about 20-25 minutes and will begin on the hour, with rolling games and sharing story sessions between.
